Since it was spread by French troops, the disease was known as the \u201cFrench disease\u201d, while the term \u201csyphilis\u201d was first used by the Italian doctor and poet Girolamo Fracastoro in 1530.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Sifilis je prvi put prime\u0107en polovinom XV veka u Napulju u Italiji tokom francuske invazije. Po\u0161to su ga \u0161irile francuske trupe, bolest je bila poznata kao \u201cfrancuska bolest\u201d, dok je termin \u201csifilis\u201d prvi put upotrebio italijanski lekar i pesnik \u0110irolamo Frakastoro 1530. godine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When was the causative agent of syphilis discovered?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">The causative agent of syphilis, the bacterium <em>treponema pallidum,<\/em>was first identified in 1905 Berlin. It was discovered by Fritz Schaudinn and Erich Hoffmann at the Charit\u00e9 Clinic. A year later, the first effective test for syphilis, the Wassermann test, was developed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When was the cure for syphilis discovered?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">The first effective treatment was developed in 1910. This was followed by the introduction of penicillin in 1943, which is still used today as the drug of choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How was syphilis treated before penicillin?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">As there was no effective therapy, people tried many treatments, some of which were very dangerous.
